Once students’ needs for ABA therapy decrease, they usually need help in managing their school studies.
Students who are diagnosed with Autism in the province of BC are eligible for the Autism Funding Program. This program provides children age 6-18, $6000 a year in eligible services. Tutor Doctor Richmond & Delta’s tutoring services are qualified and registered intervention services. We invoice the government directly for the families we service.
We work with many special needs and autism spectrum students. Many of these students are through the Autism Funding Unit in Victoria. Individualized instruction helps to compensate for learning differences and allows us to match a tutor that is a good match in terms of academic subjects, learning differences, and personality. We work to make the best match possible for these students and have tutors with a variety of backgrounds and teaching styles. Available information from psych ed assessments, teachers and doctors is drawn upon to put together individualized programs to help these students reach goals.
Please note that while one to one tutoring compensates for many learning challenges, our tutoring is not ‘therapeutic.’ Meaning: we provide academic support but do not endeavour to do brain reprogramming or “fix” a learning disability. We work with students to support them in the learning process, provide study and organizational skills, help them learn strategies for coping and compensating, and take advantage of the strengths they have.
“I have been using the Tutor Doctor for over 2 years now and I am very impressed with the progress my 7 yr old son has made in his French Immersion and English studies. He is doing math word problems that I remember seeing in grade 4-5 and he is only in grade 1. He is also now pretty much fluent in French with the help of his tutors. Now, I have started my 4 yr old last week and I was thrilled to see how much he enjoyed being with his tutor. He is asking for her all of the time. This service is amazing because you never have to worry about finding qualified and effective tutors in your area. The Tutor Doctor takes care of all of that by plugging you into a network of professional teachers and other highly qualified tutors. The tutor that is helping my 7 year old is pursuing his PhD in science and the tutor helping my 4 yr old out is a full-time JK-SK teacher.
Another huge benefit was that I recently moved and the Tutor Doctor found new tutors in our area, so I never had to worry about finding new ones myself, which could prove to be a big pain. This service has been invaluable for me and my kids”

“Our experience with Tutor Doctor has been nothing, but positive. We decided on getting a tutor for our 8 year old son shortly after his ADHD diagnosis as we just found that someone neutral with a lot of patience would be better than the usual homework struggle we were going through daily. Our tutor was — and continues to be — outstanding for our son as we have seen tremendous progress in his work, report cards and his attitude towards learning. Tutor Doctor is professional, flexible, accommodating and we are so happy we are renewing with them. We fully endorse and recommend them to anyone in need.”
