In BC, the Ministry of Education sets the standards for curriculum, testing, and examinations for students from kindergarten to grade 12. These standards are referred to as Prescribed Learning Outcomes (PLOs). PLOs outline the expectations for what students should know and be able to do at each grade level and within each subject area.
In addition to the provincial guidelines, individual school districts and private schools can each have their own curriculum in subject areas where the provincial ministry may not. This means that students are required to have good skills in a wide variety of subjects. With all these requirements, sometimes test and exam prep can be very difficult.
